The Reparative Justice Coalition of St. Louis (RJCSTL) is a network of volunteers committed to addressing our city’s histories and legacies of racial violence. With partners across the region, state and nation, RJCSTL pursues and supports projects acknowledging this historical trauma and supporting redress, in pursuit of transformative justice.

Vision

We believe that acknowledging and addressing histories and legacies of racial violence can reshape our collective future. As the late historian Manning Marable observed, transformative justice requires that we “reconstruct America’s memory about itself and our collective past in order to reimagine its future.” This memory work will advance equality and justice for all.

History of RJCSTL

RJCSTL grows out of an understanding of historical trauma associated with colonialism, slavery, the Holocaust, and other histories of racist violence, and commitment to dismantling the enduring structures of inequality these histories have created. Our growth is fueled by creative work, research, and organizing addressing legacies of racial violence, including that of Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), and other organizations. We are proud partners in the Community Remembrance Project of Missouri, and part of a long-standing and still vibrant struggle for equal justice here in St. Louis.
